change the battery in the remote

or try another remote.

make sure the antenna of the alarm is close to the window

Testing is the key

Use a volt meter and check to see that the new battery is indeed good. You would be suprised how many times a new battery is garbage. Radio Shack seems to only sell dead batteries. Adding window tint to the car will also reduce your range. If the problem occurred gradually, then the remote could be wearing out. If it happened suddenly, was any work done on the car recently? Maybe the antenna has come unplugged. Locate a dealer and have them try a new remote.

sounds like a ground issue to me.... most of the DEI units with poor range after a year or two  are poor ground problems.....
