ok i did the video bypass hack with the switch method.  this is on a 2003 bmw 325i.  well i wired the foot brake wire to a switched 12v (i couldn't get access to the brake switch, so i did this temp method until i got my video bypass module) and i wired the parking brake to a switched ground source.

now, i plug in a portable dvd player into the inputs (there's two sets, i think im plugging into the nav's inputs.  the other set is sub out)... so i switch to 'dvd' mode which in the manual says to push the source button once.  it takes me to the navigation mode.  im thinking 'perfect', this should work.  i do the unlock with the hold 12v switch, and do the on off thing with the other.  nothign happens.  the screen is just black, no video or audio.

so now my question is, do i NEED an expansion pack to plug into this unit to plug my a/v video feed into there?  does  this mean i can't play dvds until i purchase that expansion pack?  im guessing the expansion pack plugs into one of the data cables and then you plug in your player from there.

also, what if i just purchase an alpine ai-net cd/mp3/dvd changer and plug that in?  will that be able to play dvds on the screen w/o the expansion pack?  or do i also need the expansion pack to plug in the changer's ai-net cable and a/v cables?

a friend of mine says the headunit might not be going into video mode.  in the manual, it says to push source to get into dvd viewing mode.  after pushing source, it brings me to the navigation screen.  any people know how to get into video mode with this headunit?

The procedure is to hold the foot brake down, push the e-brake, release the e-brake, engage the e-brake, release the foot brake..

Seeing that you have this switch attached to a switched 12 volt source, did you make sure that the key was in the ON position ? Just trying to narrow down the possibilities to help you out. Also, where did you get the ground source from ?

yea the key was in the ON.  i didn't start the engine, but it was ON.  the switched ground was wired to the ground off the radio harness.  same with the switched 12v source.

do your brake switch deal, then press the menu button to top of the screen, once in the menu screen, use the 1 thru 6 preset buttons on units face to adjust the different settings, turn the AUX feature on, when u go thru source from now on, AUX will show up also, this will fix the problem.

great thanks ill do this.  another question: when i did the unlock bypass it didn't show anything on the screen.  am i supposed to do the unlock when the tuner is online?  or do i just do the unlock and not expect anything to show up?
