After-market deck Install?

Hey guys I need a little help with removing my stock Radio out of my 89 shadow, I am wonder how this panel gets removed on the link for below for pic. Will I need any back panel to fill in the gaps around where the stock stereo used to be? I thinking of buying a wiring harreness that plugs into the stock on from the aftermarket deck.

Any Ideas guys?

I do believe I remember 2 screws in the Ash Tray....And then its just a little Gentle Persuasion....

If it still doesnt wanna come loose take a small flat headed screw driver and go around the edges GENTLY prising at it to see where it is loose and where any possible scews or pop Holders could be when you find one start there and work your way around...

DO NOT just grab the thing and pull as hard as you can...Take your time you'll get it

definately buy a wire harness, and dig out the soldering iron and tape to make the connections.

Yea I use to be one of those hack off the harness guys, but I've been using harnesses and I'm never turning back.

For other things like speakers, just tap into the wire without cutting the copper. Always leave factory harnesses. Alpine Guy has the right idea....since you can solder the harness outside of the car on a table, you mihgt as well solder it all.

If you are really cheap, you can find a harness and install kit for about $22 at wal-mart

I buy my stuff from a shop down the street, $15 for a harness and $15 for the kit, all made by Metra. $30 even in tax free New Hampshire. It's quick and easy and they always have everything in stock. Thier prices on wire aren't so good, so I look for that in electronics wholesalers and electrical supply shops. 

The Flat head screwdriver is ok in a pinch but I want to tell you all about a much better tool for this. A fellow installer and former auto glass installer, gaveme one of his old glass tools called a vinyl stick. It's plastic and one end is slightly rounded and the other has a chisel tip, it's flat and about the length of a butter knife (which is also a good panel popper sometimes). This tool is basically harmless to plasic,leather and vinyl of car interiors as long as you don't do anything really dumb with it. The chisel edge can get burs and become sharp enough to scratch, so keep it dull. I still have this tool and I find myself using it all the time. With the way some of these cars are put together these days, I think it could come in handy for all installers. I'm sorry, but I really don't know where to find one of these, but I'm sure it would be easy enough to make one too.

My all time favorite is the $2.99 panel popper I got at Northern, this thing is great! I still use a rag to get the clips out of crank handles....one of these days, I'll treat myself to a real clip tool...

For the kit you might need a hack saw blade or dremel to get those dumb pieces out that no one ever uses... when will they stop forming those like that anyways? Does anyone actually use those inserts?
