Does anybody know if I can use both, side and top battery posts, at the same time?

In other words, would it or wouldn't it damage my battery (red Optima)?

What I want to achieve is to connect original power cable to one of the posts and use another one for everything else. But somebody told me that these posts (top and side) are not connected and using different circuits ...

Thanks in advance,

Alex

PS: if you don't know for sure, please don't post answers

The top and side posts are connected, they come out of the same battery.  (no, there aren't two seperate batteries in the same case).  Yes you can use both attachment points.  I was going to make a smartass comment, but I'll just leave it alone.

There is nothing to be a smartass about - I just needed a simple confirmation. Like I said, I planned to use both posts but some real "smartass" told me that these posts use different circuits which doesn't make sense even from prospective of batteries' manufacturer.

Thanks for your help!

The comment was not going to be about you, you had enough sense to try and get help before doing any damage.  I wish more people were like that, the reason for having sites like this one.  The comment would have been direct at people who like to hear their voices before the brain starts working.

Your friend may have mis-spoke, and meant that the battery has seperate cells. That would have been accurate, and technically they are wired in series in the circuit.

That was "Optima" dealer. And he didn't mean seperate cells - that's for sure.

I'm not familiar with Optima batteries' build, including deep cycle.
But I'm familiar with dual batteries "setup" - that's why I had doubts.

Anyway ... I'll proceed with my original plans (there is a lot of re-wiring to do).

And again, thanks for your help, guys!

I agree with you - do your research first and only then ask :)

BWT, I asked because my whole project depended on this - I needed to make sure that my design is final.
