the alarm on my car is a rather old model, it an after-market one and it came with the car and there are no brand labels on the remote or the unit at old so i wont know how to identify it. The problem is that when i disarm or arm the alarm, it doesn't beep or make any sound at all... and this has brought some problems of me having to remember if i have actually locked the car or not and it sometimes gives me a lot of insecurities when i'm away from the car.

as i assume that most alarms would have this feature, how to rectify this problem? is there a wire from the unit itself that i can connect to the siren so that it beeps when i lock/unlock the car?

You could either have the alarm in valet mode or your siren could be bad. If you are not using siren, the output from the alarm could be bad. Some alarms have fuses on the siren output wire, if this is the case, check the fuse.

i have reason to believe that the previous owner had installed the alarm such that it wont make any noise when locking or unlocking it. i dont think it has any valet mode as its not an advanced alarm. it basically has door, boot and shock sensors. I think the owner purposely left out connecting the siren because when the sensors are triggered the alarm still rings and all so i guess there must be another wire on the module which i could hook up to the siren... any ideas?

I used an old alarm lying around once, and it had a wire looped back into the unit that you could cut to disable the beeping.
