Civic Door mounts

Hey, I have an 89 Civic Hatchback, and I just bought these two killer Rockford 3-ways to put in the doors. When I went to install them, I found that they were too big for the mounting basket. I know I can just cut out the back of the basket, but my friend told me that he had some deeper speakers and when he cut out the back of the basket and mounted the speakers, the windows wouldn't roll down all the way...hmmm.. So I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem, and how you went about fixing it. Lemme know.

In some vehicles, the window track can also be spaced back. If it is possible, remove the bolt that holds the bottom of the window track in place. Replace the bolt with a longer one with a spacer on it between the window track and the inner door skin. The next thing to try is to make a mounting spacer for the front of the door out of 1/4" to 3/4" mdf (resin it as well). IF the windows are the manual crank type, then care must be taken for the speaker not to come to far out of the door as the window crank or your knuckles may hit the speaker grill. Failing that a nice shallow mount speaker is a good idea. I recommend the Concept NEO series. They have a tiny small miniscule neodynium magnet that makes these speakers ideal in vehicles where a conventional speaker will not fit.
