For those that are newbies like me, here is some interesting news I guess.  For you gurus out there, prolly boring stuff, so sorry....

I have a JL 10W0, and it was in a upward firing box, under the rear seat of an 01 extended cab 2500HD extended cab truck.  HAD a RF 200S amp on it. (I recently purchased a Sony D class mono amp to put in, just no time yet).  So I connected it to the RF amp, and MAN, what a difference.  The new box is a downfire design, and it sounds like I have a 12 vs. the old design.  Unbelievable.  The guy I talked to at a local shop looked at the box and told me I would be VERY happy with a downfire box.  I thought, hey this is a 'stereotypical' stereo shop that wants to sell something.  But, after talking to the guy for 20 minutes, I bought in.  He didnt sell JL Audio, and I thought it was pretty nice he had some excellent things to say about JL.  Very few shops would tell you to keep what you have as a sub, but he did.  So, I bought the box from him.  Actually he told me to look into a W3 or (his brand) a Comp VR with my new amp (once again, he didnt sell the Sony D Class amp I have, but for my purposes, he said again it was a nice choice).

I guess my point here is to say it is nice to see some shops that dont 'dog' out what you have in your vehicle, even if it wasnt what they carry.  I will say that what ever I add from NOW ON, I will be a customer for life.  I would say the name, but I dont want to sound like I am 'spamming' a company.  Chalk one for you good guys out there....

I agree with you there Alli. Good customer service will make a lot more sales than pushing a product the person won't be happy with. There are about 4 car audio shops around me, none of which stock Visonik or Audiobahn. I recently shopped around for a 2 AWG amp kit, talking to the shop owners. 3 of them spoke badly of both Visonik & Audiobahn, saying I should buy new equipment if I wanted to compete. All 3 of them shut up when I played the system, & showed them pictures of my competition trophies. The one who didn't try to sell me anything, & actually complimented my system, is the only shop I'll go to anymore. I don't know how some of these people stay in business. Playing on ignorance can be a profitable field I guess.

I totally know what you mean, i have 3 shops near me and i only go to one of them now because the other 2 act like they dont need my business.  i went in 1 of the shops to ask a question about the way i ran my power wiring and they charged me 5 bucks to look at it and told me it was the worst wiring job they had ever seen.  i scolded them and told them i didnt pay 5 bucks to get made fun of, and at least im not still living with my parents and working in the back of a car audio shop.  they asked me leave and not come back.
