Jeff, 92 Accord, Autostart, help!

Customer comes in late in the evening and asks to have a remote starter install on his 1992 Accord. He advice us that another installer have tried but couldn’t get it to work, so he is bring it to us to give it a try. I don’t see why we couldn’t get it to work since we have done close to a hundred of these cars. My colleague bought the car around to have everything tested out before we began.   The car starts up like it’s brand new. Tach signal meter at 3.1-4.1 volts, voltage, ignition, … are all there.   Told the customer the car will be done in 45 minutes. 90 minutes later, still haven’t got the car to remote start up. Only thing that worked is the keyless entry system and idle mode and valet mode. Last car of the day is always the biggest pain in the butt. I am sure you guys can relate. Here goes for request for advices. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated guys.     The unit I am using is Autostart 1725, I have try installing two other new units just in case the first one was defective.   I stop on the third one and I have confirmed that the unit is functioning when tested on another car. The car does not have factory alarm. Wiring on the car is correct and has been tested and confirm with a digital mulitimeter. Grounding is secure and tested.    The car will crank, but it would not start up. This is the list of things that was done to get it to work, but still it wouldn’t start up. Tach signal was learned by the unit and confirm. No problem with hood pin, brake wire, door will lock and unlock No starter kill was install Fuese are all working and tested Reduse voltage of tach signal using 1.5 k resistor and still a no go. Idle mode works fine, step on the brake and engine shutoff. On the diagnostics chart when the remote start fail to start I got 6 flashes which means this. “A REMOTE START WAS ATTEMPTED WHILE A TACH OR A VACUUM SIGNAL WAS DETECTED BEFORE CRANKING”. Where do I go from this point? Thinking of getting the tach from the inside, would this help? Done these cars many time before and never have a problem occuring. Is there something wrong with the car or just us? We have exhausted all our effort after two hours and decided that we need to call the customer to come back when we have some sort of solution to the remote starter problem.    A simple solution we thought was to put in a tachless system. But then I am not giving up until I understand why it won’t remote start. Beside I am sure the previous installer must have also have used a tachless system and probably still couldn’t get it to work or else this customer won’t have been looking else where to get it done.    Jeff (Velocity), I need help! If the ICM at the distributor is sending some garbage through the tach signal, the remote start will not function properly. Grab the tach signal from one of the injectors instead and relearn the tach programming. I had a 1993 Accord that was the same way with it, but it kept coming back with new problems until finally the customer had enough and I removed the system. It was a manual EX-R with power everything. Jeff

check the main connector i"m know this problem in past     wire for ign yellow and orange are blend in connector.may be..........

As advice, I when through two different injector both meter just below 1 volt when the car warms up. The unit learned and confirm the tach signal.    The same result occurs. Engine cranks, but does not fire up. 6 flashes on the diagnostics indicator, same result as before.    The main harness was very carefully tested on day one because we thought it was a big joke someone was playing on us. It’s no joke the real thing. With the key in the ignition you can fire up the car beautifully. Where is the tach signal on the inside? I remember it being blue but I can’t recall where it is located. I know it’s a lot of work, but desperate time calls for desperate measure. Over three hours put on to this car if nothing is happening from this point on I hope this customer will buy the keyless entry.     Please keep the input coming. The BLUE wire is is high under the driver's side kick panel. I can't remember the exact location or plug, but I have used in before in other installations too. Try it and see what happens. Also sounds like there isn't an ignition wire being powered up ? There wouldn't by chance be a WHITE/ BLACK wire in the ignition harness would there ?Jeff

WHITE/ Black is there. Tested it, on with ignition, off on cranking, on after when car is running. Omega indicate that it is Accessory. Did wire up and try with and without it. Still only crank. 6 flashes. Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

Try wiring it up as an IGN not an ACC. Change the jumper inside the unit as well.Jeff
