1. Dependant upon the age and condition of battery. 2. Dependant upon the RC (reserve capacity) of the battery, which is given in minutes. 3. Dependant upon the parasitic load placed on the battery, and the duration off time. 4. Dependant upon the users driving habbits, and if the battery is placed on a trickle charger. EX: A battery which has a RC of 160 minutes X 0.25 = 40 mA. This is the maximum load the battery can sustain for a XXX period of time, before it is depleted. The allowable load placed on a vehicle is dependant on the make, model, year also. Generally speaking, anything which exceeds 45-55 mA is excessive. But this value is relative to the battery condition, and RC value. So a bigger battery which has a longer RC could sustain a longer drain, compared to a smaller battery with a smaller RC rating. No matter what a typical SLI battery is not made to endure deep depletions of its cells. Every time a battery is allowed to fully discharge, it reduces the service life by 30%. Meaning, if the battery has a 5 year usuable service life, you have now cut off 1.50 years off of the battery. Best thing to do is diconnect the negative cable, while you are away.
