Door Panels

Ok. I have only tried fiberglassing once and it was goin good but I got tired of it and quit, then got a new car. Now I'm gonna start some new projects. A sub box is coming next week for my 3 12's. I have to get 2 more amps to push em cuz they got stolen. Then I wanna do some door panels. I've read a lot about em and think it'll be ok to do, not too hard. My question is after you make a mold of the stock panel and do everything to the new one, how do you fasten it to the door? Do you have to make all the little connector things on tha back of the panel too or just use something? Thanks if anyone can help me out.$4000 stereo in a $1000 whip, thats how u do it

With door panels, you can just use the original door, you don't really need to make a mold. The 944 we are working on, we just bought a scrapped used set, and working with those. It is much easier. Then you can use the stock door clips already provided. DXAV

So I juss fiberglass right over the panel. What about cut-outs and like making different size or shape armrests? Do I just cut the crap off thats in the way?$4000 stereo in a $1000 whip, thats how u do it

yeah, your basically using the door panel as a base to build off of, you can do anything you want with it, if you need it use it, if you don't need it cut it offwhat!?!?! you want some??

Hmmm, say I wanted to practise making custom door panels, but didnt want to use my current door panel as a base, how would I go about doing that? would I have to trace the panel on a piece of cardboard, then reinforce it somehow then build that up?

Easier just to get an old one from the junkyard or your friends old car and practice that way.

yeah find ya some used one at a junk yard and cut the crap out of those.  or you can pull your old door panels off... mask and foil the entire door, and then put down a few layers of fiberglass on that to get the template of the door... then do whatever the heck you wanna to that...

If ur gona use ur origional door panels or stock door panels in general, its gona be a bitch if u just try to fiberglass right over it because of the first law of fiberglass. Which is what you ask? It doesn't stick to plastic. It will hold on, but it wont stick. Kick it the wrong way and plop, there goes ur fiberglass skeleton. There is a way around this though! and yes, I have tried this out successfully on several vechiles with ABS door panels. Anyway, if u want to know the secret it will cost you $50. haha, just kidding, its actually as simple as adding flat head stainless steel bolts into the door panel, and using a nut, lock them onto the door. Lay a layer of resin over it and there u have it, an extremely strong bond to the metal creating a very sterdy base. You'll need several of these placed through out the area your fiberglassing, but once the glass has set u can just add more and expand it accross the entire area then treat it as normal fiberglass (sand bondo and sand).
