I'm sure you checked this already. however what's the resistance from your battery  neg terminal to your "ground" ? I remember once when i did a civic, i picked a bad ground, with a resistance of 100ohms and that totally messed up the tach learning..

From My what my DEI rep he told me ... Was to change grounds and that totally fixed the problem. he said should be less then 10 ohms.

I think i have a tach booster in my tool box from doing a preditor starter let me check tommrow when i'm at work.

silvercivicsir: Ground for the system is less than 10 ohms. I beefed up the ground also on the battery for the vehicle to see if this would help and it didn't.

mo12v : Where would this mount on a diesel engine ?

MSD makes a tach generator that may work for the civic, doubt it will work for the diesel. MSD tach generator

Small unit goes in vacuum line.  When engine creates vacuum it mimics tach signal.  Used to use for Old Cruise control Install on Deisel vehicles that had NO tach

Jeff have you tried learning the tach signals at a higher RPM? (ie: while steadily holding the gas?) May be just enough to get the signal your looking for. Also we use the tach boosters from Ford/Code Alarm. I will try and get both the Ford and code alarm part numbers, but I don't know how much it will help as they are on back order we can't even get any right now. Otherwise I'd hook you up!

This post must be a continuation of something 'cause I'm not sure what the issue is here - however Autometer makes a nice tach booster, good for mitsubishis and some fords that carry a different type of pulse.

Hey Mike,

The problem with the VW is that the alternator doesn't start charging until the car reaches about 1000 rpm's. The diesel doesn't rev any higher ( in most cases ) above this unless at driving speeds. The main problem is that I can get the remote start to learn the tach ( no problems here ), it just that after the car has sat for any period of time, the tach signal isn't strong enough for the RS to pick up because the alternator isn't outputting a strong enough signal becuase it doesn't charge under 1000 rpm's. I'm hoping with the tach amplifier, the small signal that is being output to the RS will get amplified enough that the tach is recognized when remote start sequence is activated.

Just for review, what happens is the car is placed into ready mode after it has been parked from driving....... ready for remote start for the next day. Customer presses the start button and car turns over crank and then dies right away ( within a second or 2 ) . RS tries 3 times and then has a no start error. Now here's the kick in the pants............. if the car is placed into ready mode and you try to remote start the vehicle right after driving it ( do not let it sit for any period of time ) , it works fine........ no problems at all. Catches in the first try and runs through the 15 minutte cycle the way it's suppose to.
