I have a 97 expedition with an alpine sea-8081 alarm with the digital paging system.  I installed the alarm myself.  All the sensors work. Radar, impact, hood/trunk,ignition and doors. I have the door trigger wire connected to the interior lights. The ignition wire from the brain is connected to the blue/green wire of the expedition. The ignition is normally closed.  If the alarm is armed it will not start. and ignition sensor is triggered. (Just like starter kill is supposed to work) My problem is that it will not passively arm itself.  Also it will not rearm itself if disarmed.

The manual says that there is a dip switch internal on the brain. I do have this switched to the on position.  Alpine says that the brain needs to see in this sequence the ignition turned off -open door -close door and after 10 seconds it will passively arm itself.  But it will not do it.  Can anyone help!!!!!!

The manual also states that  "...... if the door switches are not being used, auto arming will not work "  Also make sure that the s501 PIN switches are the ones that you are using not the S502 PINS.

  • S501 - row of 6 pins
  • S502 - row of 7 pins

I am using the s501 PIN switch the first and the second dip switches are turned to the on position.  what do you mean by "...... if the door switches are not being used, auto arming will not work " what door switches.  My doors function fine via remote lock with arming unlock during disarming. SORRY LITTLE CONFUSION.

" ..... if the door switches are not being used, auto arming will not work "   is what is written in the installer manual that we have for the SEA-8081. According to Alpine, if the door trigger wires are not hooked up to the 8081, then this function will not work. Does the Ford have a coutesy light that slowly dims till it turns off about 30 seconds after the last door is closed ?

I have figured out the problem. All the installation was performed properly.  The problem was that I have a alpine IVA-C800 head unit.  I misunderstood the function of the AI-Net dip switch in the main brain of the security system. I thought that my iva could control the functions of the security system via on screen menus like it is designed to do with the cva-1000.  but it does not.  The manual says that this dip switch is superior to all other switches. Therefore the brain would never switch away from the default settings. Upon reading this fact I switched the AI-Net switch to the off position and PRESTO.  Works great just like it should!!   Thanks For your help in this problem!!passive arming -- posted image.
