Hi,

I am installing a Pioneer deh-p8600mp into my 2004 Saturn Ion 2 Sedan. It has the standard 4 speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system.  I have read about how the harness for the 2004 Ions are different from the 2003's. Metra's web site is current up to the 2003 model year, so no help there. I am wondering what harness I need for this install. Also, anyone have any experience with installing in Ions? How do I remove the big plastic dash cover to get to the stereo area? Thanks for your help!

the bezel surrounding the radio just unsnaps. as for identifing which system you have, if the radio harness is grey, you have the amplified system and you use the 70-2002. if the harness is lt. blue, you have the non-amplified system and you use the 70-2102. why can't GM make anything easy.

You  can still use the 03 harness  but you will have to reposition the speaker wires in the harness.  Just pull them out and change the pin positions.  The colors are still the standard gm colors:  tan and gray = FL, green and lt green = FR, yellow and brown = RL and blue and lt blue= RR.  Light colored wires are positive in the front and dark colored wires are positive in the rear.  The power wires are in the correct locations.
Do it right the first time
