86 Nova Problems

Okay, heres the scoop...

A buddy of mine had his car broken into, and they stole his deck.  There are no stock plugs left on the "car side" of the wiring harness.  He went to a wrecker and bought some stock plugs and gave them to me to try and instal.  The colors were different, but they hooked up to the plug correctly.  I just had to use a multimeter to find out what was what and all that fun stuff.  So, it is all hooked up and seems to be working, headlights turn on, all lights work, except when you turn the deck up past a cetain point, it cuts out, this is evident that it is simply because of a lack of power, that is not my concern.  As I said, everything works fine, until you turn on the interior dash lights.  As soon as you turn them on, they, along with the deck, begin to flash...it is as if only one can be on and not the other.  So, try unhooking the deck and hooking up the dash lights, all is well.  It appears as if there is a green wire the same color that hooks up to the dash light switch back behind the deck, and then there is a ground wire hooked up to the switch as well.  I tried running an independant 12v source to the green wire and not use the shared 12v with the deck, this did not work, same problem.  If I pull the plug from the back of the switch, and make it so that the switch is no longer attatched, the deck does not work at all, it seems totally unrelated to me.  So, right now the way it is hooked up is that the deck works totally fine but he has no dash lights, and when you try to turn the dash lights on, it does the flicker thing.

I think I explained everything fully, please give me a hand with this, it would be cool to get this working.

your solution is simple...find a different 12v source...and while your at it...a new ground wouldn't hurt either...
