Hi,
I'm installing a 791xv into my 03' GTI and I am looking for a few pointers. I have a Bentley Manual, but it only covers up to 02' and I know there were some signif. changes in 03' with the CAN bus.
So I was wondering the following:
1) Is it safe to assume that I can hook this up WITHOUT      both the Rem Start & the Starter Kill?
2) Is the window system considered a 5-wire system?
3) Do I need the DEI 503T for my 2 window (U&D) setup?
4) Are there 3 wires or 2 coming from the Comfort Cont. Mod for the light circuit. I will be sure to isolate as needed.
5) Can I swap the nasty Blue LED for a red LED from RadioShack? Any specific value other than 12V?
Thanks,
Tim Denhardt

I will assume that your GTI is an automatic. (I've never seen a GTI automatic... but ya never know.)
1)Sure, why not.
2)You're in luck. On all MKIV VW's, you can roll the windows up and down and close the sunroof all from the key cylnder on the driver's door. Use the regular doorlock outputs on the 791 for the doorlocks.. tie in aux 4&5 to the same wires, program them for validity, and voila! Instant window control from the remote. You can also purchase an Alientech window interface.... check out VWVortex.com for that.
3)see above
4)not sure what you're after. The downside of VW.... you MUST go into each door for doorpins... it's BROWN / white in same harness as the doorlock wires nearest the striker in the door..... not bad to get at.
5)As you are pulling wires into the door anyways, pull the LED wires (red and blue) in there, unplug the factory LED wiring from the car permanently, and wire in the Viper LED output to run the factory red LED in the door that is already there. Or, yes you can go down to Rat Sack and get a new LED... 5V, and drill a 1/4" hole in the dash somewhere... it's up to you.
Head over to VWVortex.com, the forums, Car Audio and Electronics. At the top of the car audio forum, there's a great sticky with all wiring codes necessary for alarms, remote starters, etc.

Thanks for the info.
I'm good at making things harder then they are with too much planning. I've pretty much ripped the car apart twice, as I completely bypassed the entire Monsoon crap system, so I'm familiar with Full Interior Violation.
Damn, I'm on Vortex daily and I've searched every freakin term I could think of, just never looked there!!
It's actually a maual tranny, which is why I don't want the RS option, and the Immobilizer will provide starter kill.
I guess I could have purchased a lesser model w/o the RS, but I could not find anybody willing to sell it to me.
Thanks again.
