DEI Remote Start and Factory Key Fob

Not sure if this is possible, but I want to know if there's a way to program my DEI (Valet) Remote Start to work with my 2001 GM key FOB. Thanks in advance, Chris

Just did a search and will try this, but other comments/suggestions are welcome! "I just installed a Valet 561R in my 1999 Gmc Truck. It has the capability to use the factory remote to start the engine. Can be programed to 1or 2 or 3 pulses. I left it set at 2 pulses (it is connected to the door lock trigger) sso when push the lock but twice the horn toots and then it starts. Push the lock twice again and it shuts off."

yes it is possible to have the DEI remote start use your factory remote. I plan on having a shop install a DEI 551T and use my facotry remotes to trigger it by pressing the lock button 3 times.

I called the local installer, they said the chip would have to be replaced and they wouldn't do it because it would void the warranty... ???

Your installer is a moron. Also, why don't you just upgrade to a remote start with a remote? It is better in the long run.Certified Security Specialist

i don't know what your dealer was talking about, the install on that would be exactly like any other, except for the fact that you would need a 2 or whatever pulse input from your door lock input somewere, you would still need to get the bypass modual for your vehicle, if it's in the 01' gmc i belive it's prolly a passlock II or maybe III, besides that you'd be fine, but there really is no reason to go threw the trouble, i'd just get a full unit, you can still get your trunk pop or gas tank pop or whatever you need on a new remote, anyways, don't know if i really helped but there ya go,, have a nice dayBad Boys Customs

i was wondering the same thing... i want to put a RS in my buddies WRX, but the subaru alarm can only be armed/disarmed with the factory key fob...

Interestingly enough... I was researching the Subaru remote start as well for my aunt. You either need to use a combo unit and stop using the factory Keyless remote or I guess there is an easy plug-in remote start module made specially for Subaru vehicles that I came acrossed. The down side is it's 200 bucks for the unit and I would imagine the range would be very limited because it utilizes the factory remote. It would be alot cheaper to install an aftermarket unit with good range if installing yourself. Otherwise if your paying someone for install labor it could end up being cheaper for the add-on part. Also I guess it has the immobilizer bypass built right in. Here's the site that has the starter add-on though.
