I'm surrently wiring lights onto my car but I would like to use the stereo as a cut off switch.  Which wire do I tap into on the headunit to only get power when the face is on?

your remote wire, but that wont supply enough current to run any lights.    You will have to run a relay with a 12 volt source

What I was thinking of doing too was running the power wire from the fuse box to the toggle switch then to the head unit then to the lights.    [fuse box] --> [toggle] --> [h.u] --> [lights]  Dont know if that would change anything.  And the lights are federal signal police issue wigwags if that matters.

No, that's not a good idea.  Chances are the lights will induce lots of noise into the power wire and thus into your HU.  Plus, it is never a good idea to use a toggle switch for a load like lights that can draw significant current.  Like Jeff suggested, your best bet is to use a relay and trigger it off the remote-on signal from the HU.

10A is a lot of current. Most switches are only rated for 1 ro 2 or 3, mayve 5A on a good day. Anything over 1A really wants a relay to prevent arcing and to keep the current in the fat wires and contacts, not in the wimpy ones inside a switch.
