Well, there is a big difference between being "sponsored" (being paid to represent a manufacturer's gear) and being "sponsored" (getting free stuff because you use their gear.)  The first kind is what I think you're asking about.  Your best bet to get into this kind of sponsorship is to be an employee of the company, know someone in the company, and/or be a distributor.   Plus it helps to be famous, or already a big winner in national competitions, or be part of a team or company that the manufacturer wants to take advantage of.

SINX3....The last shop I worked at we got sponsored by Planet Audio mainly because we were moving Butt loads of their equipment in an area where it is hard to move anything....Then we built a few competition vehicles and started winning quite a few shows...We called our Planet Audio Rep and asked him about sponsorship....We finally got it...It was great they sent us some equipment that was still in the prototype stage for us to play with and at most every big points competition we had equipment waiting threre for us if we blew something....(SPL Competition by the way)....

But yeah for the most part SPIKEY what JEFFCHILCOTT was saying is true for any normal person to get sponsored...Maybe if you hired a good hooker to go "TALK" with someone in a company that has some pull and she mentions that you sent her....That might get you in the door....

Being sponsered by any major manufacturer is next impossible these days.
Your best bet is to go to a local mom and pop shop and working out a deal to get your equiptment at cost. This is about all you will really find these days.

I talked to some of the high end part makers when I was trying to put my SQ car together and they were willing to sell me stuff at cost, but they wanted to make sure it was going to be installed by someone good. (they wanted pics and years of experiance). They also wanted to make sure I was going to put in lots of time at local and national shows pimping their equipment. Seemed like way to much of a comitment to save a few grand, Id rather install it all myself and buy the stuff of Fleabay or some internet dealer wiht a good reputation. Only problem with the net dealers is most are super shady, I bought 2 12" MTX off HIGHFISOUNDCONNECTION (big eaby person) the dust caps came off a little so my subs sounded blown. I got the run around for a couple years until I gave up. They promised a 1 year waranty and in the end jsut said call MTX if you have issues. (they know MTX isnt going to do anything for me since they arent authorized dealers, easy way out for them that's all) Now Im all worked up from talking about them. Shady net dealers. Pay the extra few bucks and buy from someone decent. In the end I could have bought b-stock or referbs direct from MTX cheaper than I bought from the net dealer, and if something went wrong they would have worked with me. Most manufaturers are really cool and will work with you if you bought from an authorized dealer. MB quart gave me brand new  fronts becasue Ive run their stuff for some many years and an old pair of fronts I bought a few years ago blew. (Enough from me)

Basically getting sponsered outta the blocks is pretty much impossible, you have to either be a successful dealer (which someone said) or a big time player already in the sound off scene (which someone else said). If you are truly good the companies come to you trying to get you to switch to their product and win using their stuff. When the cmompanies start comming to you like you are some big time free agent then you know you made it. You have to remember that some of the vehicles you see are owned by the companies themselves for example the fleet of alpine vehicles, the MTX tiberon and SPL van, the Boss Audio Armored Truck, the JBL Judge Dread thing and the Rockford Escapes.

There is a company that speciallizes in getting sponsorships. They are like a broker, they get sponsors together with "sponsees". (Ok, I made up that word.)  Since I'm new to this forum, the rules says not to post links to commercial sites, so I don't think I can post the link here. If anyone is interested, email me and I'll give you the link.
