Amp shuts off for seconds

I have a 1995 toyota tercel and I installed the amplifier kit and ran the wires to the back.  I have a Jensen 400watt amp and I connected two 800watt legacy speakers.  I bridged them because its bridgeable.  Boy it KICKS.  After a while after it was all jooked up the amp started going into protection and cutting off.  I read the manual and it says that for some applications that if it is bridged and your running woofers that a fan might neccessary.  But the next day or actually sometimes I turn on the stereo and it starts to sound for like 15 seconds and the amp shutts off?  So I don't think that its that the amp is hot.  I also installed a farad cap because I thaught that maybe it was pulling too much from the battery and that it was not enough voltage so that is why its turning off but it still does it.  Any suggestions.  Im pretty handy with alarms but 80% with audio.

try running th speakers in 4 ohm stereo mode instead of bridged. See if this impedance will be more liked by the amplifier.
