if i want to make my own box do i just double the volume that each sub needs?

Not necessarily ... What you should do (when making the box) is put a partition in between the woofers. I am by no means an expert at box building but that is what i do in all my boxes. True if the single sub was in a 1.5 cubic foot enclosure (For example) you would normally double it to 3 cubic feet. Really, i would add an extra .25 to .5 cubes on there just because of the partition, so you'll have the same volume inside the box for each sub. Good luck!

You're putting two subs in?  If you are then yeah double the volume and add a divider.

Install makes the difference all the way around. Build it right and you will not be disappointed.
