Hi,

I am installing a compustar CM3000 2 way remote start/alarm into a 2003 Dodge Ram but have run into some issues. I pulled the alarm from my 2001 grand cherokee, and am using the same DEI immobilizer bypass unit I had in the jeep. My main question is when I activate the remote starter, no power is transmitted through the yellow starter wire from the alarm brain? I can hear the relay's clicking, and the remote shows it's attempting to start, but no power is sent to the starter. It does not give any flashing light error codes, etc.. My suspicions are that I do not have all the ignition wires powered. What ignition wires should be tapped into from the factory harness? I have read 3 different documents, all showing different wires needed. The truck has the hemi gas engine. There is no change in voltage sent out by the tach wire when the remote start is activated, which is another reason I believe power is not going to the proper ignition wire. Would this cause the remote starter to not send power through the starter wire? Also, should there be a relay attached after the alarm brain starter wire? Thanks in advance for the help!

fist off your truck has the factory transponder system that is virtually un-theivable, so get rid of the relay that is connected to the yellow wire. you must have installed the starter-kill relay the wrong way, the yellow on the relay goes toward the key cylinder and the yello/black goes toward the fire-wall.
after thinking about it...if you didn't cut the yellow wire in the trucks ignition system you probably aren't using a 555c transponder intergration chip. your jeep probably had the same thing EXEPT you jeep is the older version factory "grey" key. the new version needs a special part to make it work with the new chryslers.
let me know exactly what dei products you have and their part numbers.
sweet.

Thanks for the reply. The DEI unit is a 555U. I had the "grey key" in the jeep, and it is a similar looking grey key in the Ram. The DEI unit is wired in using the second ignition wire from the compustar brain, and I can hear the relay inside the DEI unit click when I attempt to remote start. Regarding the starter wire, I did not cut the starter wire from the factory harness, I tapped onto it with a straight connection from the yellow starter wire on the compustar brain. The problem is no power is sent through this starter wire from the brain. Should I have a relay connected after the yellow starter wire from the alarm brain? Also, what ignition wires should I tap onto, and will it affect wether the brain sends output to the starter if I don't have all the ignition wires tapped onto? I have the main blue ignition wire connected, should I add a relay to connect a red wire, and a second relay to connect the "green and orange" wire as described on the designtech wiring diagram? Thanks again!

Have you metered the yellow starter wire from the brain to ensure that it is indeed sending +12v out under remote start? Double check the blue ignition wire, the last Dodge that I had in here infact used a different color blue wire for the ignition.

The yellow starter wire from the brain is not sending out any current. That seems to be the problem, I can hear the relay's engaging in the brain, and the ignition wires from the brain are sending out power when I try and remote start, but the starter wire does not get any current. Should the tach sensing wire be sending out a small voltage to the brain before the brain allows current to the starter wire? When I have the key on, but the engine not started, a small voltage does come through the tach wire, but when I power the ignition wires by trying to remote start, no power is sent through the same tach wire, which makes me think I'm not powering the right ignition wires, and therefore the brain is not allowing power to the starter wire, does that sound right?

Disconnect the yellow wire from the brain that you have attached to the start wire. Make a temporary jumper cable out of some 12 gauge speaker wire. Attach one side to your red wire in pin1 of CN1. Turn on the ignition using the key. Touch and only touch the temporary wire to the factory ignition wire. Does it try to start? I'm still looking at the ignition line as a suspect right now. Are there any other blue wires that also give +12v with the key in and the ignition on? Did you go through the tach learn procedure?

Once you get that done, there's another problem that you may face. The bypass module that you had in the JEEP will not be able to program to the RAM because the system is a ONE TIME learn module, but that's from what I've heard about these bypass modules.

Yah the chrysler transponders are a one time learn.  gonna have to get a new key and code it.  What is the serial number on the module.  Compustar had a problem with there starter relay in the module.  sounds like that is what it is.  I have taken these apart and cleaned off the contacts and has cured the problem for me.  hope this helps good luck.

Thanks for the help so far, the starter relay inside the brain is a sealed unit, would this be the one that could be faulty? I am still unclear as to wether there should be an external relay connected to the yellow starter wire from the brain? As it is now, when the remote starter is activated, no power is transmitted through the yellow starter wire from the brain still. As far as the transponder, the one I pulled from my jeep is, according to DEI's description, a universal unit (555U), is this still a one time learn? I'm assuming that the brain should still be sending power through the starter wire, wether the immobilizer bypass unit is working or not? It seems to me that it could be a faulty brain, however it functioned fine when I removed it from my jeep. When I attempt to remote start, no fault codes are given, and it appears to be attempting to start (sends power through ignition wire, etc..). It will also abandon it's starting attempt after a few tries, as it should. The tach was programmed to the brain. Any safety wires (hood pin, etc..) that are grounded will stop it from attempting to remote start. Basically it's doing everything it should, except sending power to the starter.

Thanks again for the help, and further advice is greatly appreciated!

sorry i didnt checn my emails until now..anyway the 555u can be reused but you will either have to use one of your keys and put it into the 555u or get a new key and code it...Let me know if you dont know how to learn a new chrysler key.

Yah the starter relay is sealed but you can open it up. but an easier solution is to use the negative starter output on the auxilary harness and hook it up to a relay that will work just fine.  the RED / black is the negative start output;
