I've got a Pontiac Grand AM 2002 with the monsoon system in it.  I purchased the metra wire harness from our local best buy and they gave me a 70-2002.  I didn't look at it close but it's talking about saturn..  Did the morons give me the wrong harness?  Or will this work with mine too?

The reason I ask is... with the harness.. and the remote amp wire hooked up (tried both connecting it to the correct wire from the aftermarket stereo.. the stereo fires up and works, but I get absolutely nothing outta the speakers which tells me the amp isn't on.. or maybe something else that I wouldn't forsee..

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The saturn harness that you have has is not the one you need. You need the 70-2003. It looks the same but the speaker pins are in different locations.

Ok, I talked to someone from  metra today..

He's telling me to go out and get one of these expensive units.. otherwise the amp won't turn on..  Do i believe him or not?  He's talking about the following items:  Recommended this one:  GMOS-04   But said this would work as well:  GMRC-01

Sales pitch or truth?  I mean.. if I get the new harness, am I going to have problems with the amp or speakers still not turning on right.. etc .. etc ?

According to these guys, I won't be able to have any function out of that amp without their special harness/boxy thing.  But people here and best buy are tellin me diff...

Ok, I went back and got the metra part 70-2003 like you suggested... I open up the bag and am glancing at the little piece of paper talking about running the switched 12-volt accessory wire and not using the harness one on blahdiblah vehicles (mine is in there and I knew I had to run my own turn on already).. So, no big deal.. til I turn the sucker over and it says in nice big letters  70-2003 Installation Instructions..  General Motors 2000-Up Wiring Harness....  Not for use with Bose or Monsoon Amplified Systems..

So now I'm stumped... Do I try to use it.. or no..  Help?

Got gutsy... didn't get a reply here as of earlier tonight.. so I tried installing it...

And guess what.. it works

I lost my door dings.. woop-dee-f'in-do.. Only thing was that I couldn't use the stupid red wire from the harness (duh, was told by just about EVERYONE about this).. I already had a fuse that I put into fusebox with wire coming off because I wired up my radar detector hard-wired in as well as a cell-phone cradle/speakerphone and a remote amp for subs in the trunk which i *was* getting signal for off of the back speakers.  Now that i've got my kenwood unit in, I'll run RCA's and everything will be peachy..

I found a page on the net that explained how the wiring works in any of these level2 wiring setups (I forgot exactly what it's called) but for useful information, I'll mirror it on my website and post the URL here for all to read.. Maybe just reply with it as well in case the forum owners don't like a link to a remote website even though it's just informational.

Take care all and thanks a ton for the help that I was given...  BTW.. *TECHNICALLY* i was supposed to be able to use the saturn model (70-2002).. but when I tried, it didn't work...   so this is my experience.. take it how ya want..
