i just installed a 800w 2 channel lanzar amp running 2 12" 600w pioneer subs and now the amp is stuck on protect. if i turn the radio off and i guess let it rest for a couple minutes it will return to normal for about 5 minutes and then back to protect. can someone give me an idea as to what my problem might be?

First question: How are your grounds? Are they solid, and is the wire adequate?

i have the grounds running through 8-gauge wire and attached to the frame. everything was working fine till last night when my friend started playing with it. i think he loosened the ground and that was the problem because i moved it and it is working again. why does the ground through the amp into protect though? if the ground was bad wouldnt the whole amp just lose power?

What's the impedence of your subs and how are they wired to the amp?  Sounds like too low an impedence load to me... or your gain is way too high.

the impedence is 4 ohms (i think. im new to car audio). i lowered the gain and turned the bass boost off to help stop trunk rattle. that might have solved the protect problem too.

Start HERE to learn how to set gain.  And leave the bass boost off.  Or get help from an installer!
