Hi

I'm putting in a Prestige APS-996A Alarm/Starter into a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT.  The truck has keyless entry, but no factory alarm.  I just have a few questions, I have done a lot of starters, but it's been a little while and I'm a bit rusty.

1.  The wire diagram says that I have to diode isolate the door triggers.  There are two diagrams that I downloaded for this, the first one (which I think I have to use) says that I need to use a relay.  Is that the one I need to use?

Diagrams here http://www.directechs.com/techtips/pdfs/resources/1076.pdf

2.  GEM wake up, since there is no factory alarm, I just split the unlock wire, diode isolate them, and connect to the door unlock wire and the door ajar wire.  And set the alarm to double pulse unlock.  What color would the door ajar wire be (Is it a door trigger)?

Diagram here http://www.directechs.com/techtips/pdfs/resources/1093.pdf

Would I be able to just connect the unlock wire like normal and connect the pulse before start wire to the ajar wire?  and not use diodes?  The pulse before start wire send out a ground before start, and a ground while unlocking.  Or should I just do it the other way.

3.  Starter kill output, does it also cut the starter while remote starter?  If not, could I just split the 3rd ignition, to trigger the same relay and cut the starter while it is remote started.

4.  Dome light, does it come on just when unlocked, or does it come on when remote started?

Thanks, if my question are really confusing let me know and I will try to clear them up.  I'm kinda tired now lol.

Did you diode isolate the the door triggers?  It says that it will give false alarms if not diode isolated.

1. Use diagram A

2. You still have to wake up the GEM because it shuts power down to the door locks as well.

3. Yes, the starter disable relay in active when armed and continues to be active until you disarm the system.

4. Depends on the system and how it works.

I know I have to wake up the GEM, what color is the door ajar wire?

And I wanted to know if the starter disable relay was active while the car was remote started, so the starter wont grind if the key is turned too far.

And I'm pretty sure I do, but do I need a realy for the horn?

thanks

1. The driver door trigger is yellow/black and the passenger door(s) is gray/red.

2. yes it is. When you get into the truck and turn over the key and if you go too far, it will act as an anti-grind circuit as well.

3. No, according to my notes, the horn trigger is a low current wire to activate.
