I am building a system with mostly Nakamichi equipment. The goals of this system are to have Excellent Sound Quality, with enough bass, but nothing extremely "boomy". Here is what I have so far:
HU = Nak CD700II
Front speakers = Nak SP-S6500
Rear speakers = Nak 6x9 SP-C692
Subwoofer = I can't decide between the Nak SPW120S 12" SQ Subwoofer and the Nak SP-W124S 12" MOBILE SUBWOOFER. WHich one is better? The only difference I can tell is that the SP-W124S has a thicker surround and handles 350W RMS to the SPW120S 200w RMS. Which one will be better for Sound Quality?
Amp to power front and rear speakers = Nak PA2004 4 Ch
Amp to power sub(s) = Nak PA8001 1 Ch 1000 Watt
How does this setup look so far? What sub should I choose for Sound Quality? Should I get 1 or 2 of them. Note that the trunk on an Infiniti Q45 is completely sealed off from the cabin. That may affect bass.
Also, is the amp that I chose to power the sub a good choice for them? It is rated at 800RMS x 1 @ 2 Ohms. I'm thinking that 2 Nak subs(4 ohms each), wired in parallel would be the best way to wire the subs on this amp.

well, for sq I would either go with 2 10's or 1 12...thats just me personally, as far as the trunk being sealed if you lack bass that much, which with that much power you shouldnt..but try rebuiling your rear window deck to allow arflow into the cab

The 124 is a good sub, but i am plenty pleased with my 2 SPW120's as well. To tell you the truth, the SPW1200D is a better sub then all of them. I had one and i loved it, but later sold it to a customer (everyone has their price). It cranked with great SQ. I'd get one of those or two of the SPW1000D and just get a bigger box.

The PA8001 is plenty for the 1 12'' SPW1200D, but if you really want 2 woofers i would recommend getting another PA-2004 and bridging it. Then i'd run the two SP-124's or SPW-120's. in it. They are both good amps. CD700ii is the best head unit ever made in my opinion.

So, youare suggesting that I get another PA-2004 Nak amp? That is about the same price as the Nak PA8001 1 Ch 1000 Watt. SO why would I get the 4 channel amp? Is there something to be gained?
So, I think I am going to get 2 SPW120's.
Should I get another PA-2004 4 channel amp, or should I get a PA8001 1 Channel amp?
Thanks for the replys

PA-2004. It is a four channel amp, but when you bridge it you get two channels, which would be ideal for running 2 subs.

I am not to familiar with the new Nak amps, but why or what would be the advantage to him going with a second 4 channel amp as opposed to a larger 1 channel. This doesnt make a whole lotta sense to me but I am sure you have a good reason, I just dont know what yet

First, in another thread you mention not wanting "excessive" bass that competes too much with the mids and highs.  If this is really the case,

1) You don't need 2 subs.  2) You don't need that much power behind them.

I'm thinking that 2 12in Nak subs will work well with the 4 channel Nak 2004 amp.
To keep from getting to boomy, I could adjust the gain, correct? At first, tune the Gain to the maximum possible without distortion, and then turn it down until it seems not to over power the Mids and/or highs. Does that make sence?
Thank you for replies.
