I have a 1998 Mercury Sable.  The keyhead is pretty small.  Could my vehicle still have PATS?  Here's some pics of the key(s):

I don't know if you have PATS, but you could have SecuriLock. ;)
(Same thing, different name).
I can't see how thick that key fob, and one of my wiring sources is saying that SecuriLock was an option on a 98 Sable.
I thought PATS wasn't intro'd until 99, but the only real way to tell for sure is to hook up the RS. If it starts w/ the key in the ignition but not w/ the key out of the ignition, you need a bypass.

No worries on your car, the head of the key for PATS on a 96-99 sable/taurus is the same size as that remote.

We'll, like hagmanti said, I'll just have to hook it up and see I guess.

The car is rock bottom.  No added features or any dealership options.  No luxury items or anything so I don't know if it would have securilock on it or not.

The key fob is 1/8" thick or less.
