Installed a Prestige Platinum 996a on a 2005 Kia Sorento. Everything is working just fine with the exception of the remote start. I have conflicting information about the tach wire. DEI is indicating green / black and DesignTech is indicating a red wire, both located at the top of the engine block.

Please confirm the wire color and location.

Seriously, put a DMM across 12V and each of those wires. Start the car. Look for an AC voltage (around .5 - 5ishV) that varies w/ engine speed.

(sometimes need to go across ground and the putative tach wire)

That's all tach is...

I'm much smarter than that my friend. I have been doing this for 7+ years, and I know how to test a tach with a DMM. Could have been a long day and I'm starting fresh on the vehicle this morning.

Tach wire is behing the instrument cluster, the color is GREEN/ black. It is the connector closest to the middle of the vehicle. Cluster or ECM, 28 pin plug, pin 5.

My apologies-- I thought you were just asking which of two wires that you were currently looking at was tach, and didn't know how to measure tach. If I'd looked at your profile, I would have known better-- I just assumed.

Not a problem hagmanti.

I did successfully complete the install. I was primarily seeking assistance for a different location to find the wire. I don't particularly like dismanteling new cars. This Kia only had 400 miles on it, and I just like to take an extra precaution when working on cars that I have not worked on before, and more importantly, NEW cars.

Thanks for all the help, I ended up pulling the instrument cluster out and found the wire.
