Lexan for an enclosure?

lexan is very strong. I use it for a windshield on my stock car. I also use it for a spoiler and skirting on the stock car but, It will flex so I would go with as thick as you can afford. the thicker it is the more it cost and it aint cheap. I would not make the box totaly out of lexan I would use it as a window in the box. If your gonna make the box total lexan use at least 3/8" with lots of internal braceingBig Dave

I wish I had a picture... I helped a guy build a subwoofer enclosure completely out of clear Lexan about five years ago.  We had to use double layers of 1/2" thick sheets to keep the walls from flexing and bracing was a BI*CH to design and glue into place.  It ended up costing about 10 times what MDF would have cost and it must have weighed 150 pounds, but it was a unique looking thing and it sounded pretty good.  He used it in his home theatre.Support the12volt.com

i've never used lexan for a box, but i once assembled a box completely out of plexiglas 3/4" for 2 12" alpine type R's. Heaviest damn box i've ever owned, but it looked really cool, and sounded great. 1990 Honda Civic HB:

What ever happened to Mr. Bobby Gately out of California I think? he used to sell boxes on sounddomain.com I think? They were completely made out of 3/4" plexi all routered and buffed/polished edges... they were incredable and for a dual 12" box I think they were like $350... But i'd reccommend 3/4" but I did see some 1 1/4" thick lexan used for logging equiptment something like $160 a sq ft!!! But on the other hand lexan IS bullet proof... some police car windows are made out of it also I believe all president associated vehicles have it... its neat stuff! You can cut it on a table saw (if you go reeeeaaalll slown)
