i'm doing a little research before i upgrade my system. right now i have 2 12" Kenwood db+, a 1000 watt amp, an 800 watt amp for mid-highs and 1 1farad cap. i'm looking to upgrade to 2 1000 watt amps (1 per sub) and 2 1farad caps. the subs are dual voice coil. how would anybody suggest i wire this? i would like to bridge each amp to each sub. i want the most spl possible. series or parrallel for the voice coils? please be as detailed as possible.

Need a little more info. Are the subs 2ohm or 4ohm DVC's? What is the lowest impedence that the amps will run at? And any other info that you can tell us.

The subs are 2 ohm. the amps aren't high quality but they run an impedence of 2 ohm so i have the subs wired to 4 ohm right now. One per channel. i would like to bring it down to 2 ohms but not sure how to do that. i figure dual voice coil, 2 ohms each, wired to 4 ohm per sub. wired straight to each channel. it sounds great in the car now but its still not enough for me.

The problem that I see is if you wire them in parallel you will have 1 ohm and in series you have 4 ohm, if they are 2ohmDVC's. If you run 1 amp to 1 sub, you can't get it to run at 2 ohm mono. It would have to be 1 ohm or 4 ohm mono. So, no you can'y get the most out of the amps with this setup.

so i would need two mono amps that could handle 1 ohm? what would you recommend? i'm looking for power at a low price. Ballin on a Budget, as i like to say.

If you are looking for pure SPL I would recommend getting one high quality amp and seeing how you like it before getting two cheap amps that sound loud today and will be dead tomorrow. If you want pure spl, you can look into Memphis or Hifonics amps. You can normally find them at a reasonable price and won't have to worry about replacing them anytime soon.

I see that you are ballin on a budget so post up what equipment you are already working with and I am sure that everyone on the 12volt will be happy to help you out.

I do not have my car with me so I don't know the item numbers but here we go:

HU: JVC CD/AM/FM
AMP: 1 SONY XPLOD 1000 WATT -SUBS / 1 LEGACY 800 WATT HIGH/MIDS
SUBS: 2 KENWOOD EXCELLON DB+ 12"
CAP: 1 LIGHTNING 1 FARAD

if youre going to continue to run the kenwood excelon subs, the new kenwood kacx811d would be a good amp for a dual-sub, dual 2 ohm coil configuration. youd run the amp all day long @ 2 ohm mono @ 900 rms
