i have a blaupunkt santa monica cd30 cd player that im trying to install into my car and it wont power up.  I have checked all the fuses in the car and in the deck and there are no blown fuses.  I have all the wires hooked up but the ground.... Now here comes the tricky part... The sticker on top of the deck says that position 8 is the ground position...  but the harness has no black wire that comes out of position 8.... now i got this deck for free and i know it works because i saw it work in the car it came from it was an 88 300zx.. does it have a different grounding system or something? So i have tried sticking the ground wire strigght through the harness to the prong and that doesnt work either... did this deck die somewhere in the process of transferring it from car to car??  is there a way to check if the deck is still good??

Thanks guys

Usually with no ground...you can plug in the antenna and that will ground the deck. Try that?

Yes, the antenna will provide a ground.  Most decks have a threaded hole in the back where you can attach a piece of backstrap.  If there's no ground wire, you could run a wire from there to ground for a better ground.
My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

The whole chassis of the cd player is a ground, just run a wire from a screw on the back, to the ground wire in your car.

ahh thank you very much fellas... there was a fuse hiding in the engine bay that had something to do with the stereo... (even though it said something about ECU!?!?) hmm go figure... and i never knew that you could use the antenna as a ground
