I recently purchased a used Viper 600HF alarm online and was given the brain, a clear box, relay, and remotes.

I have very little experience installing alarms alone, but have plenty of experience with electronic in general.

My questions for this alarm are:

Is it possible to set it up with remote start? If so, what would the costs be, parts, etc?

Is it possilbe to get a newer style remote for the system.  These remote have seen their day.  I would like to purchase the newer style blue remotes.

Thank you,

Jason

On the LED status hook up.  Does the LED you hook up already have to have a resistor on it.  I remember back when I was in electronics class, all LEDs had to have a resistor on them.

How much did you pay for it? I'm fairly certain the resistor is built into the brain on the LED output (it's 2V)

Yep, the LED output will be 2-5VDC so any old LED from radio shack will do if you don't already have one but you'll need to solder leads to the board. Remote start is definitely a viable option. You COULD just use some relays to accomplish a "poor man's" remote start but you would lose alot of safety features as well as one button integration. The easiest would be just to buy an add on (if your wallet allows the purchase). DEI has used the same remotes for a very long time so you should be safe going with something newer but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call to see if they offer any compatible upgrades. Hope this helps!

I paid $50 and this is all that i received.  I am not sure if it included everything I need to setup the basic alarm and door lock/unlock features.  That is all I am wanting right away.
