I am currently running 400w RMS into 2- 15's, and 2 8's, along with 200w RMS into a set of rockford components. The system is set up for SQ, and thats the way I compete with it, although when I twist the bass control know, this thing pounds the ground!

I have no problems with lights dimming, or distortion, or any of that stuff, and the system sounds great. My question is this:

Will adding a 1 farad cap do anything for the sonic quality of my system? I do show the car, but I am not interested in buying one to install just for the "bling factor". I only want to use it if it will make my system sound better.

Any input would be appreciated

I'm gettin' 2 old for this sh*t!!

capacitors are pointless, most of the time, they drain completely in one bass hit, and therefor just cause more strain on your alternator and battery.  stay away.Capacitor question -- posted image.

It wont make your system sound any better especially if your not having any problems right now.

Sorry dude, ur wrong about that. Capacitors cant be completely drained unless ur pulling more power than they can store. For instance ur amps pull 1800 watts but ur cap is only rated for 1.2F (1200 watts). Ur cap will shot the juice upto 1200 watts, after that it sucks the power driectly from the battery. A capacitor is a buffer for the battery and alternator system, its purpose is simply to provide a voltage hike to support the power needs of deep bass notes. It in no way effects the sound quality of the system. I'd like to see/know who or where u heard that a capacitor is pointless and causes more strain because I've never heard of this myself and think u just pulled it out of ur ass. Sorry, didn't mean to come down on u like that but misinformation causes people to look dumb. Thats my $2.32 and have a great day.

try to ignore the arguing here and read Big Purds' post: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=28280&KW=capacitor&PN=0&tpn=2

I have no time to dig any further, although I remember many many more posts on this subject
