Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a CD/MP3 player for my car. I want something that is very plain and not too obvious. I'm paranoid about it being stolen because having my car broken into is not fun. I can definitely relate to that happening and more than once! I'm looking at the Clarion DB345MP. Basic, not flashy whatsoever, and does what I need it to do. Anyone recommend that I get it? I heard it has overheating problems. It is the only one that I have found that is real basic looking. All the rest are really flashy. Anyone got any other units in mind? Thanks ahead to those who reply!

that clarion is a good choice if you're looking for something to not stand out.  I think the best thing would be to just get one with a detachable faceplate (such as that one), and to remove it and put it in the glovebox whenever you park your car for an extended period of time.  To a really stupid thief, it might almost look like a blank panel, and they'll move on to another car.  To a smarter thief, they'll probably realize you've either locked the faceplate in the glovebox, or taken it with you.  The cost to replace the faceplate is sometimes even more than the unit itself, so there's little incentive for a thief to steal the head unit without a faceplate visible.

Or if you're super paranoid, just get an alarm installed.  not too expensive when compared to the cost of an insurance deductible...

Thanks for the replys guys! I'll look into the other brands. I HAD the Eclipse 5442 back in high school. "Had" is the key word. LOL. It was an awesome unit for my system! The unit I want to get is actually for a friend. He doesn't need anything fancy. Just a CD/AM/FM unit that will play MP3s too. I doubt he even knows what preamp outputs are. Anyways, I was pretty much ready to get that basic Clarion unit. Then I heard about the overheating problems through research on the net and that is going to make me shy away from it unless someone can tell me more about the problem.

A Nakamichi would be perfect, but I dont think they play MP3s.

I had some info on it, it was distributed by Erikson Consumer, give them a buzz and see if they still have the line. A CD5444 would be nice but as you want just the basics, drop down to the CD3414 (no subout) or CD3424 (subout) and they will do what you need.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

The Nakamichi CD-500 also plays mp3s and is new to the Nakamichi lineup. Pretty plain looking but very stylish looking.Has red and blue lighting.
