I was at work the other day, when a guy brought us his car. We were installing a new system in it for him, but he failed to warn us of one thing, there was an alarm in it. Now, just to avaoid accidentally setting them off, we normally unhook alarms when we do large installs like this in people's cars. Well, since we didn't know he had one, we didn't un hook anything. I went to go upstaris and retrieve the equipment, when suddenly the loudest noise i've ever heard erupted from our install bay (Louder then the 15 Orion twelve's in our show car). Turns out, one of the other installers accidentally tripped the alarm. Apparently, it's a 175 dB horn that blasts when  triggered. Blew out the guy's windows, blew the eardrums of our installer, and burst blood vessels in his eyes, arms, and face. He'll be fine, but deaf for the rest of his life. WHere the hell do you get something like that? That is like the most dangerous alarm I think i've ever seen.

And yes, we are levying a massive law suit on this punk

Pictures. If you where going to sue the first thing you would have would be pictures or police report, this could technically be considered mantrap.

Im thinking the medical report from the hospital. The vehicle check in report where he signed for the condition of the vehicle. Hopefully there is a part that says " ANY ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT INSTALLED IN VEHICLE?" or something equivalent. I'd take some pic's of the horn if you can find it as well.

Sorry to hear about your installer,

I don't know where you could get such a powerful alarm. Mayby a boat supply store, like a foghorn or something?

The other other guys did all the picture taking, I could prolly get my hands on them though. I don't think it was a "pre-made" system, I think it was just something the guy fabricated himself. We do have an alarm question on our estimates, but he checked no. I guess cause he prolly knew that it ain't legal. At least I don't see how that sort of thing could be. I've been stuck upstairs the past couple of days, cause our shop manager was the one that smashed the alarm, so he's not feelin real great. I'll diog around though, cause I haven't really asked much, the dB rating was what I heard from a phone conversation

FAK me, if it is legit, hope the installer is going to be OK, if it is not legit, this is your credibilty going down the crapper. WTF kind of horn is that, a train horn with some massive air resevoir and compressor for it? If so then it would have been an easy spot. Something is just not addin up here dude.

One would think that a horn capable of 175db.....would be rather large now, wouldn' one?

175 dB? Isnt that around the point of phase change?

Prolly about as loud as this thing http://www.victorysiren.com/x/main.htm

Not saying an extreamly loud siren could not really mess some one up but 175 dB? Thats a whole lot of power...

That's not a whole lot, that's outrageous. The power supply to trigger that would be impossible to not see... I guess maybe if this car is a huge car (look at the stuff from the 50's or so, you got some big ones there I guess) you could hide that, and man, it takes a car sized siren to make that much noise. Given the 175dB you overheard was just someone being slightly overexaggerative, then there might be something more functional. BUt either way, that's a lot.
