hi i finally got my new head unit setup and functional... (well not 100%), but my ears are hurting after prolonged use... the volume isn't cranked up or anything. it's wierd cause after i stop, the hurting in my ears immediately cease. it's like a a dull pain in my ear drum...
i'm wondering if i have something setup wrong... settings or general setup
audio -> clarion 7-band EQ/line driver -> pioneer 400W 4-channel amp -> speakers.
can it be an audio thing cause i used to blast my HU and didn't get thing ear thing.... thanks

Yes, and check the level match between your HU - line driver - amp.  Could be high-frequency distortion causied by gain mismatch.

If you have an eq, look at your mid range frequnecys.   dont turn them all the way down but they can get kinda nasty if turned above 0

How did you set the input gain on the amp?  Does the EQ have a gain control?

jeffchilcott: i'll take a look at the EQ
DYohn: the EQ does have a gain, basically i started with the EQ set to 25% on the gain, and then i set the HU to (pioneer) to 15 of 50 and then set the gain on the amp (both front and rear) with neutral settings in the EQ and HU. is that correct?

Why do you feel you need the line driver + eq?

Please don't take offense, but I honestly see marginal value in that unit for most systems.  Moreover, I feel that in many systems a line driver + eq can cause more problems than it solves.
