This may sound dumb, but whats the big box with the aluminum thing on the end of it, underneath the hood.   The one that says danger high voltage?  Another alternator or something.   Oh and btw props man on the custom lcd, and all the wiring and stuff man, that took had to take hundreds of hours.   Also whats the big red button for, is that a power kill switch or something?

Its an electric motor.
This whole vehicle was designed by The Ohio State University as FUTURE TRUCK, and competed with trucks from several universities. More info on what it does at www.futuretruck.org .
This year we start a new competition called Challengex, more info on that at www.challengex.org but we will get getting a new vehicle to work on to attempt similar goals.
Since we still use future truck as a test bed for out controls and stuff, I figured Id practice my glassing on that so when we get the new truck in a pro.
The reason for all that wirings if case the box on the right is a motorolla processor controling the torque from the engine and motor. We converted it to a 5 spd from an auto, and replaced the engine with a 2.2 turbo disel and electric motor. The processor also has to control the charginf of the batteries since the truck never has to plug in.
The computer on the left is just the telematics, it logs al lthe info and displays all the information onto the lcd touchscreen in the dash.
