It does, but then it doesn't.  Magnets provide flux for the coil to move through, the two combined being BL.  You want just enough BL for a given design and that's it.  In fact too much can actually hurt you.  But just because one speaker has a larger magnet than another doesn't make it better.

Also sometimes has to do with the material that the magnets are made of...Cheaper material may require more of it..

Example Neodium magnets do not have to be so big cuz its a very good magnetic material...

<----eclipse aluminums. 7100 series...98oz magnet.   2 10 inch subs and a memphis hc-50 amp.    142db on the term lab!   I dont believe in magnet size.    I mean hey volfenhag makes subs with 200oz mag's
