Hi I am not sure if anyone can help with this or maybe knows someone who had similar problem not sure I don't think its electrical.

I have a 1998 Chrysler Concorde the problem just started about 2 days ago. I started my car and I can not get it out of park, at first I thought it might be the shift interlock (must press brake first before removing from park) but it wasn't.

If I let the car warm up then press brake it will shift out of park with no problem I only have this problem if the car sits parked for a long time in the cold and its verrrrrry cold here in Canada now.

It seems like something is feezing up then thawing out.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks.

No there is no overide switch this is a safety feature from the manufacturer(not sure if its only on Canadian models)but all new cars in Canada are not supposed to shift out of park unless foot is on brake pedal.

Yes auex the brake lights work everything else is working normally. I am thinking that maybe some snow or water somehow entered the shift cable linkage and is freezing up when it sits too long. I would like to get under the car but its much too cold outside.

I live in Windsor, Ontario and about the same time this happened is when we received a lot of snow. That is why I was thinking something might be freezing up but this is the first winter its happened the last few winters I never had the problem.

I had an issue with my ebrake that happened just after a snow storm here, it was just a build up of snow and Ice that caused it and I would guess that is your issue as well. Do you have acess to a heated garage or shop anywhere you can pull it in. Mabye really wide front doors into your house :)

I have a garage but its not heated. For now I just remote start it and let it run a little longer. This car also had a recall issue for the shift interlock back in August. The dealer did the necessary repairs which could also be the problem and if it contiues it may have to go back.

Last winter I had a different problem because of the cold which could have been disastrous. My brake booster had filled up with condensation and the water inside completely froze solid so one day after work I pull out of the parking lot and at the first stop sign I apply the brakes and nothing happened I completely had no brakes. I had to apply the parking brake to stop good thing no cars in front of me.
