i know this may sound like a stpid question, but there are no stupid questions, just stupid people, neways, what is the orange illummination wire does on an aftermarket radio?

adjusts the brightness of the deck display i assume. it goes with your dashboard adjustment switch. never used one so im not positive

I think it work like this: It dims your display on your radio when you turn your headlights on at night and gets brighter when you turn your lights off, just like a factory radio.

some after market decks have a illumination adjustment, yes this wire alows your display to dim when your light turn on but you can adjust the display with your illumination settings on the deck, some decks will not alow you to use this feature without the wire connected but only on a few. most will work without it.

Technically all it does is dim the lights on the deck, some have adjustments (always make sure it goes to the illumination and NOT the dimmer). It is one of those wires I don't hook up personally.
