I am having problems with my clifford wizard interface cable. At first, I plugged it in to my com port with a gender changer since the cable has a male end and so does the computer. I ran the wizard and get a message when it scans for ports "port available but system not found."

I plugged the other end into the alarm unit and turned the ignition on. I still get the same message. I figured my cable was bad between the module and the 9-pin connector. I reterminated the end so that it is female and will plug right into the computer. I still get the same error.

What could be causing this? Does the cable have to be plugged into the alarm module to be recognized?

what version of wizard are you running and what OS.

versions earlier than 2.1 won't run on NT or XP.

my cliffnet cable plugs into my serial port no problem.

I am using the new Wizard Pro software that is backward compatible for the G4 systems. I did originally install the older Wizard software accidentally. But I de-installed it and installed the newer version.

Wizard can be a bit fussy.

Boot your computer without the cable attached to the alarm. When PC is up and running, connect cable to alarm, then start wizard.

If there is no alarm connected it will only allow you to run offline

I just cant get it to work. I'd hate to buy a new one and it not work either. I've opened the case and checked the solder joints, but they look fine.

Any more suggestions?

*** Sorry, but this is COMPLETELY untrue. You CAN hook up a serial connection while the system is on, though it does not function like hotswap USB and it is NOT recommended changing the cable while the port is actually IN USE.

Basic hardware knowledge. It's quite simple. Done it 1,000 times myself. No blow motherboard. Sorry.
