Hey

I am have been kicking around the idea of somehow heating the mirrors on my 92 toyota truck for those cold days when they frost up. I do not know how factory heated mirrors work or what the heating element is made of.  I am wondering how complicated it would be build the circuit to control the heater, if any special circuitry in neccessary. Secondly, what can be used for a heating element? Can the same principal  or something similar to heat tape be used? If so, what would the amperage and/or  wattage draw be?

If anyone has any ideas on this, let me know?

Thanks

i dont believe the mirrors come apart but what you need to do is be able to get behind the mirror and affix a heating element . i buy from muth direct and they use a element that would in therory be similar to rear defog. as for size and ampeage would depend on your mirror size , but as i said i dont believe those mirrors come apart. you can go to their website and see if they have something similar to your truck.your best hope might be the cal-vue replacement mirrors and you can even get them with the turn signal chevrons built in now.

Thanks for that information. In my original thinking, I was thinking more along the lines of some sort of heated(electrically insulated) wire(flexible), something that I could just basically shove up into the mirror trhough the mounting hole on the bottom. I will have to look into the mirrors construction a little bit more. Thanks
