I know there's a lot of Eclipse guru's out there so I figured I would ask them of all people. Whats the consensus on the older 88000, 8000 series Eclipse subs to the lower priced 7000 series subs that came out this year? Did they get cheaper on the material or just lower the price to attract some more people since almost every manufacturer is jabbin you. Most anyways. Sound, Quality, durability? All opinions welcome. thanks.

Personally, I think the 87000 series of woofers sounded better than the 88000 series. I have to disagree with wheelerdr though... the Eclipse gear IS great gear. Asfar as I can tell, the reliability is as good as ever, I think they really just lowered the price to compete a little more. The DO still have to make money to stay in business, after all.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

The 7000 series sub is smaller in comparison to its predecesor. But...I think eclipse has hit the nail head on this time...98 oz mags on the 7000 series 10's   power handling of 400 rms. will take 1000 easy!    2 10's in a vented box tuned to 38 hz with 400 per sub hit 142db on the term lab.    still great clarity for daily driving as well.    you be the judge with that knoledge.    I like mine

Eclipse has been the best sounding aftermarket speakers I've even owned.  I've got Phoenix gold 5.0 ZR components, that are great, but expected more for midrange, when compared to the low end eclipse I've owned, and still use.

142 would be awesome. Since I am going with the sealed enclosure, I do not plan on coming close to that, but high 130's would be great. I plan on putting about 500 RMS to each so I should be good there and my wheel well should easily be 2 cu ft, so I'm good there too.  I also heard the magnet is smaller, but a better design for cooling the voice coils. So it should still be a super clean sound at a much better price.  If I don't like them which i doubt is going to happen, I can always swap with something else. I'm not going for sound competitions, but a solid quality sound. thanks for the thoughts.
