Is it possible to install just a monsoon cd head unit out of a 2000 grand am and install it in a 95 chevy van without any of the factory amps or speakers?

If the monsoon cd player recquired the amps then it won't work without them.

I'm pretty sure if it's a monsoon system you will have to have the factory amps to get any sound.

Yes, but you will need an aftermarket amp to reproduce sound as the Monsoon radio does not have any internal amplification but one thing concerns me, the year.  Are you sure it is a 2000? I was under the impression that Monsoon started on the 2001 class 2 data radios for the Grand Ams. If you do have a 2001 radio you  will not be able to use it in your Chevy van as the Chevy van is not a class 2 data vehicle and in a class 2 data vehicle the computer brain turns the radio on by data, not voltage.

I had a monsoon system in a 2000 regal gs.  I unhooked the amp for awhile to hook up my aftermarket 6x8's.  I still had the amp running the front components that came stock.  The headunit uses high level output to the amp.  So yeah, it should work, though its not very powerful.  If i'm not mistaken they do have security though.

As far as when the monsoon started in GM, I read regal forums, and they claim the monsoon started in the 99 year.  Little higher end vehicle than a grand am.

If you read my post phuzun you would note I said 01' for the Grand Am's, not Monsoon in general. Monsoon started in the mid 90's.
