At the PCM. There is a 10 mm bolts holding the plug with all the wires in it. There are more that ONE TAN / YELLOW wire in that plug. The hardest to reach TAN / YELLOW wire is the correct one.   If you unbolt the plug TAN / YELLOW wire is nearest to the bottom of the plug. It will meter between 4-6 Volts AC.
FORD, EXPLORER, 1995, Tachometer
The PCM is located at the top of the firewall towards the passenger side, the tan / YELLOW tach wire is also found at the back of the instrument cluster.

i did not see any tan / YELLOW wires at the coil?

how do i access the back of the cluster without pulling the dash apart more? would i need to pull the cluster out?

i want to make as many in cab connections as i can

Yes, if you open up the hood. Go to the passenger side you will see it. It's a BIG plug with a million wire attach to it.
