Alright, I figured it was time to lay out some numbers once and for all. I am by no means trying to prsuade anyone any which way. But I am just putting the #'s and observations I have had in the last couple of months. Everything compared is all withen the same price range so here are the fact as I have seen
Vehicle 1.   Mazda b2200 Pickup.
(2) Audiobahn 1206t subs 12 inch dual 4 ohm coils
Rockford 801s amp.   800x1@4ohm running at 2 ohm load
Output=    143.6db in a 3.6cuft box per sub, vented
The SQ side is a little lacking but hits extreamly low and full
Vehicle 2. 1998 Honda civic Coupe
(2) eclipse 7104 subs 10 inch dual 4 ohm coils
Memphis HC-50 amp.   800x1@1/2 ohm running at 1/2 ohm
output=   141.7db in a 1.75 cuft box per sub, vented
The SQ is amazing even in a vented enclosure, it is tight enough for hard rock, and low for Rap.   Will not hit as low as the 12's in last vehicle but running at half the power as the audiobahns
Vehicle 3. 1986 Buick GS
(2) Treo SS subs 10 inch dual 4 ohm coils
Memphis 1500d mono amp 1500x1@2ohm running at 1/2 ohm
output= 142.6db in a 1.5cuft box per sub, vented
The SQ is good, but not as tight as the Eclipse subs. Will handle frequency changes well in techno.   Will hit slightly lower then the Eclipse subs
Vehicle 4. 1996 escort
1 Memphis mojo quad coil sub. 15 inch quad 1 ohm coils
Memphis mojo amp 2400x1@2ohm running at 1 ohm
output= 144.8db in a 12cuft box, vented semi-wall
The SQ does not exist, this is a SPL only sub Will not hit helow 35hz well.
I have provided this comparison to try to shed some light on some brands I have played with, I will add some more as I think of what has been ran around here. Everything is about the same value except the last vehicle where equipment cost is higher.   I would like to see some responses to this on what others have encountered out in the real world testing.

Good thread man. Not a great comparison as all the different pairs of subs were put in different cars w/ different amounts of power...still good thread.

Fantastic comparison

I was shocked to see anyone on this forum beside myself that would use audiobahns

I aggree with you I have a audiobahn pre-built bandpass for the wife, no SQ but plenty of SPL coming from it
I havent found anyone local with a SPL meter Im sure its not over than 120 but thats loud enough for us

Whell, my set up can definately get its name in there.   1 type-R 12 in a 2cft vented, powered with a MRD-M501.  I had it tested twice, once was 143, and the other time was 139 both different shops.  There not term lab presision, but pretty dam close.

That set up costed me literally $250 lol .  brand new e-bay cost.. $400   I will not sell blueprints for the box, so please do not ask.  Its my secret weapon.

Edit:  And its in a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder.  Ok sq, since its ported for spl, and gets very low when needed.

Jeff,

Do you have any pictures of the Eclipse sub installed? I'm planning on installing 2 10" Eclipse 7300 series subs in a closed box (approx 2 cu ft) in a 2001 Civic and I'm looking for ideas.

I wouldnt put those sub in the same enclosure make sure you seperate the 2 and would go with more along the lines of 1.5 cu ft...I will take some pics and try to get them to you

Jeff, there's a little bit of scientist in all of us, eh?  Your testing was both measured and involved personal evaluation, and I like to see posts like your's... Concise, SCANNABLE, and Objective!

One reason why you won't see "stevdart" in those wannabe forums.

hmm...possible to get pair of matchin subs- rms and in same box, or in same type of enclosure-ie to manufactors recommendations, sealed or ported.  Then in same vehicle?

But that is a good selection of ranges to give us all.  Wish i had the equipment to test out my car...dont think id be over 120 tho..but its really clean, and thats what i like.

I need quality equipment, feel free to donate.
