97 Astro Van tach location?

Do you have to remove the battery to access this tach in the black plug at the ECM? It so cramped under the hood I'm not seeing where the ECM is. Here's what the notes said: **the ECM is located on the DRIVERS SIDE of the ENGINE COMPARTMENT, behind the BATTERY, in a BLACK Plug, labled "WHITE"

Getting the tach wire for this car is extremely painful. There is a black plug, but Don't look for the BLACK PLUG cause you will miss the forest from the tree. LOOK FOR THE LABLE WHITE. THE LABLE WHITE IS A RAISE LETTER SO YOU WON'T MISS IT. Look for the WHITE lable instead. You have to get the battery out to be able to work on the tach wire ( or use a t-tap and long plier). There is virtually no room at all to get any good leverage. Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
