I've been having trouble getting a response on the following question from automotive forums. I was wondering if any of you guys could help.
The power window stopped working on a 98 Nissan Altima. I pulled the door trim and checked the switch has continuity. I then pulled the harness going to the power window motor and tested for 12 volts; it checked out good as well. I then ohmed out the motor and got no resistance. I'm thinking either the windings in the motor are shorted open, or the internal breaker in the motor has tripped. Therefore, I condemned the motor as being bad. Did I miss anything in my diagnosis? I can't find just the motor searching the internet only the regulator/motor combo. How difficult is it to replace the whole assembly? My Haynes manual says to lower the window enough to remove the retaining bolts to the window to pull the glass. I, however, can't pull lower the window. Is there a way to lower the glass in when the motor is inoperable? Do you know where I can just buy the motor? I know this is a car security forum, but I was hoping one of you has done this before.
Thanks

the motor must have continuity. you can manually test it by wire it to a power source, thatll be your hard evident there.
