I'm not sure where to find the Tach wire for my 98 Grand Am, I find a harness beside the coil pack, it does have a few wires coming out, four wires from the one plug and two from the other, I have tried both the white and the Purple White wire, like some people have said could be it, but the car just cranks for a second or two but doesn't stay running, if you turn the key for the same amount of crank time it fires right up.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks Rich

Any chance you might have a PASSLOCK I in the car? Just a guess.

Your tach is fine. Your  problem is that you are setting off your security.  That vehicle has passlock 1 and needs to be bypassed.
