its a 89 probe gt 4cyl and i will be running 600.2 diamond d5 amp which in turn will be drianing alot of power. should i go with a custom alternator or would a farad cap do it? i have heard they are kinda a waste of money any imput is helpful and well thankful for!

Low power + Cap = worse power. If you add a cap without proper charging ablity then that first big bass note is going to drain the cap. Then the next bass note, you alt. is not only going to be trying to push the amp but it is gonna be charging the cap, so you are putting way more strain on your alt. A cap has a use but not the one its sold for. Their only real use is in extream SQ systems to level out the power flow.

thanx anyone know how much it would cost for a 2nd alter. ??? or a custom one???? or would a dual battery setup work just fine? i am going for really loud and clear bass but i want super clean SQ!!!!!

Usually a HO alt. is going to run you about $300 depending on what kind of car you have.

check out www.4alterstart.com from what I have heard they have good alternators with warranties you might have to contact them though because I am not sure if they have one for your probe.

www.mechman.com is the best i have ever dealt with.  there has been a few complaints about crappy alts comming from 4alterstart

mechman.com is the way to go. I tried alterstart and they sent me the wrong alt and made me pay for shipping to return it. :000000000000000D shaft.com baby ....

depends what you want too. And yes ur right, you will need a better alternator, easier than adding another. I have an 88 celica, and i can't play too long, because the alternator cant put out, which has lead to many more bigger problems and $$$. So spend some money now, save more later
