Hi, I am running a cda-9831 deck and have a Dodge Neon. My factory 6.75's and tweeters sound ok running off the deck, so I thought I would pick up a midpriced set of 6.5's and it would sound awesome. I was wrong. I got the Alpine Type-S' (sps-170a) and they sound worse than the factories do. I put a 300 hz bass blocker on it and it starts to distort before the factories do. What is my major problem.   I want to take em back to Best Buy because they aren't doing it for me. Advice would be so appreciated. Thanks guys.

First of, take the bass blocker off and use the 9831's crossovers, set them to 120 hz.  I have never had a problem with the type-s speakers, they have always done a good job.  First look into your set up.  Did you bypass your factory amps if you have some?

For the price those are really nice speakers. The crossover should help alot. I dont know much about neons but I doubt you have a factory amp. Check anyway though.

Nope, no factory amp. I have amps going to 6x9's and subs, but thats it. Am I just not feeding them enough power with only the 9831 deck amp? Thanks guys.

no, they should be getting enough power, thats what there designed for.  But seriously, take those bass blockers off, the deck has built in crossovers for a reason.
